THE REAL EMERGENCY

On Wednesday 26 August, a catastrophic flood unfolded across Nepal, tearing through the provinces of Timure, Rasuwagadhi and Syabrubesi, and devastating communities along the Trishuli River corridor. What happened was beyond imagination. In a matter of seconds, homes, bridges, shops and entire markets were swept away by what eyewitnesses describe as a 30-metre wall of water, mud and debris.

The scale of loss is heartbreaking. At least 987 deaths have been confirmed, a number which is expected to rise as search and rescue efforts continue, with more than 3,900 people still missing. Hundreds of families have lost everything in an instant - their homes, their livelihoods, their loved ones. Survivors are desperately trying to trace their missing children and parents, while at the same time searching for a safe place to shelter and food to feed their families. Power supplies have been badly damaged, plunging areas into darkness, and bridges and roads have been blocked by rubble, making it incredibly difficult for rescue teams to reach survivors in remote areas. Rasuwa and Nuwakot are the worst-affected, and there is now fear of even more destruction as a lake remains at risk of bursting.

NEPAL NEEDS IMMEDIATE HELP

In this moment of immense crisis, we cannot stand by. To help more people and to reach further, Sachkhand Foundation in partnership with Sai Sanskar Foundation has come forward to support the humanitarian response on the ground. This partnership brings together dedicated volunteers and strong local networks, so that help reaches those who need it most, quickly and directly.

Scientists are still investigating the exact cause, but reports from the region indicate that a huge chunk of glacier fell nearly 7,000 feet into the river below, causing a massive surge that roared downstream through the Lhende Khola, Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers.

HOW SAI SANSKAR FOUNDATION IS HELPING

Your donation will make an immediate difference. It will help us provide emergency shelter support for families sleeping in the open, clean water, sanitation and hygiene kits to keep them safe from disease, first aid and health services for the injured, urgent cash assistance so mothers and fathers can buy food and essentials for their children, and rapid needs and damage assessments to find and help the most vulnerable in the most remote villages.

We can't bring back what was lost, but we can stand with the families of Nepal as they grieve, survive and begin the long road to recovery. Every contribution, no matter how small, helps us reach one more person. Please donate today and be part of this joint effort by Sachkhand Foundation and Sai Sanskar Foundation to bring hope back to Nepal.
